Product Information and Features The software included in this installation is designed to support HP DeskWriter 600 Series printers. This driver allows you to take advantage of all printer features while running the QuickDraw GX printing extension under System 7.5 or later. ColorSmart™ ColorSmart makes it easy for you to produce high-quality color output when using any HP DeskWriter 600 series printer. When you select "Print", ColorSmart automatically adjusts the print settings for great looking output whether you are printing color or grayscale. You can select specific print settings, such as intensity, halftoning patterns, and color matching, from within the software application by choosing "Options" from the "Page Setup" dialog box. Typically, you will want to leave these "Options" settings at "Auto", allowing ColorSmart to provide the best printing of your files. (some of these settings may not be available for your printer). Refer to the Balloon Help™ for more information on these settings. The fonts that ship with the HP DeskWriter 600 Series printer QuickDraw driver are TrueType 1.0. These fonts work with QuickDraw GX, but only TrueType 2.0 fonts will be able to take advantage of the unique QuickDraw GX font features. Desktop Printers A new feature in QuickDraw GX is the desktop printer. You must create a desktop printer in order to print. (See Topic "Creating Your Desktop Printer"). QuickDraw GX allows you to create a desktop printer for more than one printer. Printing from QuickDraw vs. QuickDraw GX Applications How you select your printer will vary depending on whether the application you are printing from is a QuickDraw or QuickDraw GX application. • When printing from QuickDraw GX applications, you can select any of the desktop printers from the pop-up menu in the "Print" dialog box. • When printing from QuickDraw applications, you must select the desktop printer icon first, then from the Finder "Printing" menu, select "Set Default Printer". The default printer has a black border around its desktop icon. Print Job Status To monitor printer status, double click the desktop printer icon. The dialog box will allow you to view print jobs in the queue, stop printing, change the print job order, pause printing, or remove a print job. Background Printing QuickDraw GX always prints in the background. This allows you to work on other documents while printing. Problems During Printing If a problem occurs during printing, the desktop printer icon will have a yellow warning sign on top of it. You can view the description of the alert by clicking on the desktop printer icon.
